I thought that it might be a good idea to give you a little
bit of the history behind Webify and also
let you know some of the future plans for
Webify.
History::
If you are like me and have to use an
image editor on a regular basis you understand that many
times opening up Photoshop is more trouble than it is
worth. Especially, if all you are wanting to do is a few
small edits and thats it. Many of the image editors have so
many bells and whistles on them that a user gets lost in
the interface or frustrated at the way things seem to be
over complicated.
So around a year an a half ago I began looking for a really
small image editor that would allow me to quickly make some
edits to an image and save it for the web in a minimal
amount of clicks. I found many neat programs, some free and
other were moderately priced. Some were better than others
and a couple were really, really cool in the features they
offered, but all of them fell short of what I was looking
for.
This led me to do some research as to how to go about
developing my own application. I looked at several
different programming languages and finally decided on
REALbasic because of it's short learning curve and robust
features.
I had to ask a lot of questions and had to get a lot of
help but within a few months Webify was
born.
After the first beta was sent out I received a lot of
feedback asking for certain features to be added or certain
bugs to be fixed. This meant that I would have to go back
to the drawing board on a couple of occasions to find the
right solution. The result turned out to be a really cool
and useful application that I am pretty proud of especially
for a version 1 release.
Future::
After having built the first version using REALbasic, I
made a decision to port the application to Objective C and
use Xcode. This was a difficult decision because it meant
that I would have to hire some outside help in order for me
to get all of the functionality that the REALbasic version
has. But I also knew that if Webify was to
have a long life span then I needed to change programming
languages.
Webify version 1.5 will be built in
Objective C and will retain all of the features of Webify
1, plus it will contain several new and exciting features.
Work on version 1.5 has already begun and is progressing
rather quickly.
Webify version 2.0 is going to blow you
away. It will also see the addition of several more
features as well as "batch" processing.
I do not want to give too much away so I will just say to
keep your eyes peeled because the end of the Summer will
likely be an exciting time at Mudbug Software.
